News Flash: OGS 2011

I was recently notified that one of my proposals was accepted for the Ohio Genealogical Society's Annual Conferences in Columbus, OH, April 2011. I'm excited .... can you tell?

Here is the title & summary from the proposal:

“Hiding in Plain Sight: Scotch Settlement, Columbiana County”

Summary: Cluster genealogy is a useful technique for finding elusive ancestors. But what if you want to find an entire community? Scotch Settlement, Columbiana County wasn’t missing to the people who were descended from its inhabitants, but it was unknown to those who investigate the Scottish Diaspora. In a case study that effectively marries genealogy and academic history, I will discuss the techniques and sources used on both sides of the Atlantic to recover this community.

It will be fun to share my dissertation research with a broader audience; heretofore, it's only been academics who have heard me talk about it. I've heard that OGS is almost a "national" conference. Apparently, that's a big deal in the genealogy world. I'll post more details when I have them.
