Glengarry Bhoys |
Yesterday, I participated in one of the most visible events of the Scottish Diaspora - Highland Games. Or at least I was at the venue where the games were held as like last year, we skipped all the parades, competitions and caber tossing. This year we ate some pretty good fish and chips from Claddagh Irish Pub, a Midwest chain; went shopping (for important things like Digestives and Murray Mints); heard the pipe bands, listened to music; and met some very nice people from the Scottish American Society who were inside a nice warm barn with all the clan societies. Despite many great purchases, the music was the big draw for me this year. Brother performed as scheduled and we were able to hear one set. I was so pleased to be able to hear them live after enjoying their music for many years! We were also introduced to the music of the Glengarry Bhoys from eastern Ontario. Check out both these groups, if you get a chance.
The Highland Games season is not yet over. so there is time to find one near you - if you are so inclined..
