If, like me, you can't attend the upcoming debate on The Global History of Scottish Emigration, you might be interested in a podcast I tripped across. In November 2008 a public debate was held in honor of the launch of the Scottish Centre for Diaspora Studies. The headline speaker was Tom Devine, with commentary from other scholars (one was Richard Finlay, I didn't recognize the names of the other two), and questions from the audience. A podcast of the debate has been posted to iTunes by the University of Edinburgh, just search for "Global Scot."
My thoughts on this debate will have to await another post; but in the meantime, here is what the Guardian had to say on 25 November 2008.
